The weather forecast here is calling for 100% chance of snow and I’m 100% making hot toddies. Making hot toddies and reading a new book in my favorite chair with my favorite blanket while I watch the snow fall outside my living room windows, to be precise. I shared in my Instagram stories yesterday that I am starting a new book, Raeanne Thayne’s Woodrose Mountain. I read 28 pages last night and will admit the first few pages went a bit slow for me until the story line was laid out on the pages. I am now looking forward to reading the unwinding love story.
During mine and my best friend’s annual Christmas shopping trip this year I picked up an Oliver Pluff & Co. Lemon Ginger hot toddy recipe mix from the Beehive boutique in downtown Anderson, South Carolina. I wasn’t sure at the time when I would make the recipe but I was secretly hoping it would be a cold snowy day. My inner child always hopes for snow. Alas, South Carolina will never see the snow I played in as a girl in northern Pennsylvania.
The directions are simple and printed on back label: boil 1 cup of water, add 1 tablespoon of the spiced recipe mix, steep for 5 minutes and strain. Add 1 teaspoon of honey and 2 oz. of your choice whiskey, brandy, or rum. Top the glass with boiling water and a fresh cinnamon stick. I picked up a 4 oz. bottle of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey on my way home from work this week and checked the weather report one more time. 100% chance of snow. I passed on the cinnamon sticks because I wouldn’t have any other use for them. Now the only thing to do is wait on the lowering temperatures and brisk winds to deliver a blanket of snow. I will be sure to update you all on how the toddy recipe turns out. If the first one doesn’t turn out well there’s still 2 oz. of whiskey straight which is equally good on a very cold day, right?
Do you plan ahead for snowy winter weekends or is your plan to have no plan at all? Either way, I’d love to hear from you and what you love to do! Until next time.
Xoxo,
Grace
