The new year is upon us and I am going into 2022 with a clear goal for my home: To only bring high quality, permanent pieces into my space. I intend to do this by giving thoughtful consideration to each piece, no matter how big or small it may be. Even if it means going without a desired item until I find the right one.
Why, you might ask? It’s simple really, after many years and many styles of home decor… and many trips to donate decor that wasn’t ever quite right for me, I have vowed not to waste another penny on anything for my home that’s “good enough” or “works for now”. Because I desire permanent pieces that will stand the test of time and trends.
In the past, it didn’t bother me, out with the old in with the new. Until my younger sister and our new (moved in 1 1/2 years ago) home changed my mindset. First, my sister has fantastic although differing taste from me and she has curated a lovely home. It was during a conversation with her that she shared her secret. She always intentionally buys high quality, permanent pieces from throw pillows to fine art. So that was how she did it! And that was what I was doing wrong.
Second, when we moved into our new home I rid my decor of everything that didn’t fit the end result I was going for and honestly many things I haven’t replaced yet. I needed to spend time getting to know our forever home and how to dress her. As I look ahead for 2022 I am excited to thoughtfully and intentionally build a beautiful home around me.
I leave you now with this ginger jar lamp I have chosen a pair of for our hallway side table. When I tell you I scoured over a year until I landed on this lamp it is no exaggeration.
Are you being intentional about your home in 2022? I’d love to hear from you!
Until next time,
Xoxo, Grace
