Valentine’s Day 2022: Family traditions to start this year

Do you have family traditions for Valentine’s Day? When my oldest two children were young I started the tradition of a family Valentine’s dinner. The first year I rifled through my leftover party supplies and set a fun but simple table scape. I prepared our favorite meal, spaghetti with homemade meatballs. I still remember the pink metallic confetti I sprinkled all over a disposable lace table cover set with silver and pink paper plates that first year. And since that first year the tradition has continued and our family has grown. Our favorite meal has changed from year to year too… pizza, tacos, lasagna, lemon chicken. I still like to use left over party supplies with additions from the dollar store and my favorite, Amazon. Here are Valentine’s traditions you can start with your family for 2022.

Secret Valentines

Write the names of all your family members on a sheet of paper and place them in a bowl. Have each person draw a name from the bowl to select their secret Valentine. Pull out the construction paper, glue sticks and markers for homemade cards. Store bought works too.

Valentines Mailbox

Repurpose an old mailbox or create one by decorating an empty shoe box. Set it up where everyone can place their Valentine’s cards inside.

Heart Pancake Breakfast

Dig out your heart shaped cookie cutter for this extra special breakfast. Whisk together your favorite pancake batter or buy the pre-made mix. Be sure to liberally spray the cookie cutter with non-stick spray.

Valentine’s Family Dinner

Keep it simple, keep it fun. Use party supplies you have on hand or from the dollar store. Serve your family’s favorite dishes or order pizza! Kids love pizza and so do I!

Valentine’s Photo Booth

Break out the photo props from last year’s birthday party or make your own with items from around the house. Finally there’s a use for that feather boa. Decorate a poster board with “Valentine’s 2022”. Tape the poster board to a wall and get to snapping photos you’ll want to share! I want to hear from you! What traditions do you have? Are they old or new? Until next time.

Xoxo,

Grace
